Letterpress printing is the 'relief' printing of text and image using a press machine with movable types or plates, which has a raised surface that is inked and then pressed into a sheet of paper. When you use a quality paper, you can feel the imprint of the recessed texture of the type.
A fellow graphic designer friend of mine, fish + cake, and I took a letterpress class over the weekend in Brooklyn and we had tons of fun! We both found out how letterpress has a very time-consuming setup and definitely is not worth it unless you are printing large quantities. It always amazes me how much work was put into printing back in the old days.
